Adventure on Bardsey Island
Late August 3 night offer

Ideal for families or groups looking for real tranquillity and a unique adventure.
Date: 10 am Wed 27th August to around noon on Sat 30th 2008

Bardsey IslandThe Island of Bardsey is one of North Wales’ unique locations. Only accessible by boat from a cove near Aberdaron, Bardsey is a world away from the stresses of modern life. The air is clean, the sea is clear, and the sunsets are stunning. The wildlife is amazing, with seals, choughs and Manx Shearwater in evidence as well as rare and beautiful maritime plants. .

The island is steeped in history and has been a haunt of pirates, legendary resting place of Merlin, the site of an Augustinian abbey, and burial place of 20 000 Saints. See www.bardsey.org
.

Normally you have to stay for a full week and book it a year in advance to secure the best weeks, but we have a balance of 3 nights available in 5 beautifully preserved farm houses; fully equipped with all mod-cons circa 1870! This means old fashioned washing and sanitation (compost toilets), water piped in from a mountain spring, and heating and lighting using gas lamps. There are gas-powered fridge/freezers to keep your food fresh, good old-fashioned kitchens and the rooms are large and well appointed. Life before electricity!

The 5 properties available are:

Hendy
Hendy or “Old House” is the place to linger outside during the long summer twilight and to savour the scents of honeysuckle mingling in the night air with the echoes of nocturnal shearwater.
The flickering lights of the lighthouse behind the Abbey's silhouette add to the magic. Views are towards Ireland and the mainland. Hendy has a secluded garden with blackcurrant and raspberry bushes which you are welcome to pick in season. There is 1 double bedroom, 2 single bedrooms and 1 room with 3 single beds (triple), sleeping 7 people in total. Rental cost for 3 nights - £198.
Hendy
Llofft Plas
Llofft Plas is a popular, charming and comfortable stable conversion with one of the best views on the island - looking down towards the lighthouse - from the front door. There is one living-room/kitchen downstairs and one bedroom upstairs sleeping 2 people. There is no private garden with Llofft Plas, but plenty of place to sit out in the grassy enclosure to the front. An ideal hideaway! Rental cost for 3 nights - £129.
Llofft Plas
Nant
Hooks which today may be used to hang up gas lamps were originally used to hang cured salted bacon.
It's close to the Abbey Tower and a stone's throw from the Island's chapel.
The Trust has recently installed a multi-fuel rayburn in the dining room which makes the house popular with visitors during early spring and late autumn.
The house is a mirror image of Hendy and two families or a large group, wishing to stay close together, often takes up both houses.
Adjoining Hendy, sleeps 6. Rental cost for 3 nights - £198
Nant
Tŷ Capel - SOLD
Tŷ Nesaf
This semi-detached house has two spacious upstairs bedrooms and one smaller bedroom. The kitchen and dining room are south facing with spectacular views towards the lighthouse.
A small wooden gate in the front garden leads to meadows and eventually the wild and rugged western coastlines.
From your garden you will often hear crashing waves and the cries of seal, chough and oystercatcher.
Sleeps 6. Rental cost for 3 nights - £198
Ty Nesaf

Please see the Bardsey Trust’s website www.bardsey.org for more information.
The prices above are the cost of the properties themselves-(irrespective of how many people are staying), but this does not include the boat journey to and from the island which was £35 per head with luggage last year. Arrangements can be made with the island boatman to go fishing and raising lobster pots at an additional cost. Bring your own sheets, towels and pillow cases and plenty of food and drink and reading material.

This is weather dependant and rough seas may delay the voyages. This would be unusual for August, but you must be prepared to stay on the island for longer if the weather turns stormy.

First come first served and payment in advance please. 50% on booking, balance 1st of August.
